This past week, the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding in historic Old Salem in Winston-Salem, NC and AV Connections, Inc. was on hand to provide sound system rentals in NC for the gala and auction evening. One of the finest American museums on the subject of decorative arts, MESDA joined forces with Graylyn Conference Center - a quintessential example of the building-construction decorative arts in its own right - to host this lovely evening banquet for MESDA donors and sponsors.

With 280 guests expected, the size of the expected attendance greatly surpassed the number of people who could fit into Graylyn's historic Atlantis Room. AV Connections, Inc. was charged with assembling the AV in the Atlantis Room and broadcasting it to the terrace lawn outdoors. The Atlantis Room was important to the evening all on its own, as a prime example of Southern decorative arts. Hand painted to recreate an under the-scape, it is was a fitting place in which to note the accomplishments and growth of MESDA in its first fifty years and to plan for its future.

Turning fifty is a huge accomplishment for MESDA and its endowment which has been serving the growth of the Museum since 1960. Five years of planning preceded the opening of the Museum in 1965 by local antiquities dealers Frank Horton and his mother Theodosia Taliaferro. Seeing a void in both respect for, and preservation of, Southern decorative arts they endeavored for five years to fund the future museum endowment. With the support of the arts and collecting communities locally and throughout the South, the Museum sprung to life. MESDA continues to increase its collection and educational offerings and can be credited with bringing recognition to generations of Southern crafts-people.

In the permanent collection of MESDA an impressive array of decorative examples thrive under watchful eyes of dedicated cultural arts preservationists, including some of the South's finest works of furniture making, wood work, painting, and inlay design construction. And while this effort is celebrating fifty years, that is a relative youngster in the realm of museums preserving cultural arts. Creating healthy endowments and robust fundraising efforts are the key to museum survival and growing collections and offerings. This gala and auction evening was a resounding success, raising $212,000 for MESDA. As natives of the South, we could not be happier to report this was the case.

AV Connections, Inc. was pleased to provide two elevated screens with bright projectors and a sound system that extended outside into the soaring courtyard so those who could not be accommodated in the historic Atlantis Room were still a part of the event via the outdoor courtyard’s overflow space.

We have a 43-year cancer survivor on staff and we were pleased to be the NC audio visual company selected to provide outdoor grand opening event AV for the Novant Health Cancer Center Opening in Winston-Salem, NC.  At AV Connections, Inc. we're always mindful of how lucky and blessed we are; but this involved a charity initiative particularly close to our hearts.

At this afternoon ceremony the grand opening event AV was distinctly and deeply meaningful to our own group. Our NC AV Connections Inc. office manager, Marilyn, whom many of you talk with to book your NC audio visual rentals and events, is a 43-year cancer survivor. Marilyn was contacted sometime ago by the Pink Heals Tour of the Triad and we knew this was a charitable mission we needed to support.

The Pink Heals Truck Tour moves across regions and nationally supporting new initiatives in saving women from cancer and supporting their families as they become survivors and heroes. For the opening event this past weekend, the Pink Heals fire trucks and police vehicles were out in force which was so inspiring! The fire trucks have been signed by survivors and their families and are very moving so, we've posted as much as we could for you to see and understand. The next time you see a pink fire truck, you'll surely be as moved as we were at the event.

Up to the AV Connections Inc. microphones this weekend stepped the Honorable Mayor of Winston-Salem, NC and the Fire Chief. Several members of the Winston-Salem, NC fire department donned their pink fire gear in a nod to the PinK Heals mission as well.

At this trade show AV Raleigh NC job site, AV Connections had the pleasure of providing HD big screen video projection rentals and technician set up and engineering for two amazing HGTV stars. We were a little star-struck to have the pleasure of working with Ty Pennington and Matt Meuinster of Bath Crashers fame.

Our Winston Salem audio visual team was on site to provide audio for the Winston Salem State 2014 Commencement on May 18, 2014. Winston-Salem, NC was blessed with picture perfect weather for the commencement exercises. The agreeable weather allowed for an outdoor graduation at Winston-Salem State stadium and we ran the  audio to project to the 12,000 graduates and visitors in attendance.

Spring has arrived on Wake Forest's campus and we have been out providing meeting audio visual rentals from our Winston-Salem office to WF's Alumni Council meeting. AV Connections, Inc. was pleased to be the meeting audio visual provider of choice for the spring Alumni Council gathering on WF's campus. A bit of decent weather finally arrived, Winston-Salem is beginning to show signs of warmer weather and we were thrilled to be out on Wake Forest's magnificent historic campus last week.

At gathering of fifty or so of Wake Forest influential alumni and boosters went off without an audio visual hitch. We were excited to get a chance to see Dave Clawson in person for the first time. Coach Clawson has just become the head coach of Wake Forest's football program and was on hand to meet and address the alumni meeting. Wake Forest hired Dave Clawson away from University of Tennessee. Clawson most recently served as Offensive Coordinator for the Tennessee Vol's. Wake Forest and all in Winston-Salem, NC are pleased to see Clawson join the Wake Forest University community.

This was just a great opportunity to provide Winston-Salem meeting audio visual to our amazing clients at Wake Forest and get to meet a local celebrity. Football, being something of an important spectator hobby in North Carolina!

Another beautiful work site for AV Connections, Inc as we provide audio visual equipment rentals at High Point Market for a group of incredibly talented design clients at High Point Market here in High Point, NC. We are working for several clients at High Point Market as usual this season. Press conference audio visual for lemurs in Durham,NC  you ask? Well, not exactly, but close. AV Connections Inc. was thrilled to work woth Warner Bros. Pictures for the first time at Duke University. We provided press conference audio visual for the release of Warner Bros. new IMAX 3D movie, Island of Lemurs: Madagascar.  It was exciting and frankly quite awe-inspiring. we had the opportunity to visit with a couple of these beautiful animals while we were on site and thought you might like to get a look at them too.

This was an amazing job for so many reasons, of course we love providing AV at Duke University, but to pair it up with this movie release to protect the endangered lemur species makes it even more extraordinary. Duke University houses a Lemur Center for the care and study of the lemur (usually a native of far away places in East Africa). So, Duke was selected as the place to hold the press conference to kick off Lemur Week. Lemur Week concluded Friday with the opening of the film, Island of Lemurs: Madagascar.

Dr. Patricia Wright, a foremost anthropologist and primatilogist specializing in lemurs was on hand to speak on the lemur. Her work has been both vast and brave in this field. She is a leading conservationist for the species.

On the whole, it was a great experience aside from the pleasure of working on the press conference audio visual for Warner Brothers. We learned a great deal and were honored to get a tour of Duke's incredible lemur facility. AV Connections Inc. thanks both Warner Bros. Pictures and Duke University for allowing us to provide the press conference audiovisual for the start of Lemur Week.

AV Connections, Inc. is always pleased to find ourselves at Wake Tech Community College in Winston-Salem, NC, this time providing video, audio, and lighting production services for a faculty recognition ceremony in the Physical Education Building. We are pleased to be a regular AV rental and staging provider to Wake Tech and school graduations, commencements, and ceremonies across the state of North Carolina.

What a fantastic event this was:  Hundreds of associates and their families, great live music and carolers, gorgeous holiday food and nibbles, and endless beautiful holiday decor. We were pleased to be the BB&T Corporate Holiday Party audiovisual suppliers again this year and are grateful for our long-time relationship the bank; another North Carolina business, like ourselves.

We set up HD screens and audio at BB&T's Headquarters around the atrium to be sure all the guests got in the holiday spirit. It is a soaring, enormous, and stunning room and BB&T wanted to make sure no one missed a beat, literally. Just a great party for the associates of a great company and we couldn't be more happy to be the audio visual vendor on site. Happy holiday's and the happiest of New Year's for 2014.
